The first 10 years of my life was spent in Terrebonne Oregon, at the base of Monkey Face, rock climbing capital of the world.  My parents owned a dairy farm and being the third born of 4 girls I was raised on hard work and home cooked meals.  My mother made most of our meals from scratch, including my families favorite “Nettie’s Vanilla Syrup.”  Of course it was not called that back then; I just knew it was the only thing to put on my breakfast every morning.

When I was 10 years old my family moved to Wyoming.  I spent my high school years braving bitter winters and wishing I was chasing boys instead of cows.  One thing never changed, no matter how cold it was outside, mom always had a hot breakfast waiting for us, syrup included.  We continued to share most meals together until I moved out on my own.  I believe all those years spent working so closely with my family contributed greatly to my intense desire to carrying on the traditions of a strong happy family of my own.

That way of life is non-existent now days but I still do my best to bring my family together at least once a day for a meal.  Breakfast seems to be the one meal we share most often. “Nettie’s Vanilla Syrup” keeps us stuck together in a manner of speaking.

One of my sisters always called me Nettie so when the time came to share one of our family’s most treasured recipes with the world that’s what it officially became.  Now “Nettie’s Vanilla Syrup” can be found in specialty stores and restaurants.  I hope it brings your family together like it continues to do mine.

Sincerely,

Lynette (Nettie)
